The building housing the Mirador de Ulía restaurant was constructed in the 1950s by the San Sebastian architect José Antonio Mendizábal. He purchased it after becoming captivated by the views from the location. The building can be seen from almost every point in the city.
In 1966, the chef Faustina Zaldua, trained in the best tradition of San Sebastian gastronomy, understood that such a privileged location should be open to the public. He bought the building and opened his restaurant in May of that same year.
The gardens, described by some as an authentic oasis on Ulia Mountain, are perfect for holding receptions or other celebrations. The main dining room, decorated by Juan María Navascués, is where large meetings can be held, never losing the perspective of the views. However, the terrace is the truly magical place for contemplating the unbeatable views which start at Zurriola beach and on clear days stretch out along the entire Guipuzcoan coastline, finally disappearing behind the Getaria peninsula.
